Post-Apocalyptic Legacy Rules

Rebuilding your Sims life  - a post apocalyptic legacy challenge is a new challenge I've thought up after viewing several other legacy ideas.  The idea is that something terrible (be it war, natural disaster etc) has befallen your town of choice and your Sims need to make a life for themselves and their children to come.

First you go to Edit Town and drop a 10x10 piece of property anywhere in town as your new home.  Space after all is limited in this new world.  While you're in Edit Town you may add anything else you require (primarily book corral to libraries, put down garbage dump, night clubs, movie studio, equestrian center etc if you think you will need them.) Once you are out of Edit Town, you are not allowed to return to place any other community lots.

Like other challenges your Sim is a young adult, traits are your choice, male or female, etc.  Age should be on normal - the sliders can be set however you wish. High "free-will"setting required.  Place your founder on the 10x10 lot and start your game.  You can only buy furniture under $500 and nothing with electricity except a radio and fridge. Once you have built/spent your initial amount you may not enter build/buy mode again until promotions (see below).

You are allowed to purchase the following for your house, all items are to be under $500:

  1. kitchen items including - fridge, sink, small garbage can, counter space x2, dining table, 2 chairs (or bar stools if you choose to eat at counters)
  2. bedroom items - bed
  3. bathroom items - sink, toilet, shower
  4. others - lights, mirror, bookcase, radio
All other items can be purchased later, if requirements are met (wishes such as "buy furniture worth $250 etc" are to be cancelled).  The house itself can be as big/small as you want, you must purchase the cheapest floor/wall covering, all build items (stairs, windows, doors etc) should be under $500 .  Once this is all done, you then purchase the most expensive statue you can afford, place in family inventory and leave it there, this should leave you almost penniless... time to get a job!

Starting your game your Sim now has an option of only a few careers.
  1. Criminal - either branch.  Someone has to rule this post-apocalyptic world with an iron fist!
  2. Inventor - only self employed career allowed.  Someone needs to build cool stuff.
  3. Law Enforcement - either branch. Someone needs to keep the peace for the common folk.
  4. Military - Someone needs to stop the hostile take over of your country!
  5. Politics - Someone needs to govern this new world.
Four of the five careers are rabbit holes, the other (for people with Ambitions) is the only self employed allowed.  These careers are for the active household only.  If non-heirs leave they can choose any job they want.  For the Inventor career you can only sell your stuff through the sell option on your own inventory, not the consignment store. If you marry someone in another career, and their life time wish is for that career then they may stay in it (ie: world renowned surgeon can stay in medical field)  if they are not following life time wish, they must, and if it is a skill related wish then they must quit their job and enter one of the 5 listed above.

For every promotion you get you can do one of the following -
  1. buy one piece of furniture over $500
  2. buy one electronic item (any value)
  3. add to your home (any value)
Once you have reached the top of your career you may spend up to $10,000 in build/buy mode. Same thing applies if you have achieved your life time wish. (achieving both will give you $20,000 in build/buy mode) this is to be spent immediately, if you don't have $10,000/$20,000 to spend then too bad for you.   Life time reward points can be spent on only things that have no value ie: Steel Bladder, Dirt Defiant, etc. Spending them on things like No Bills Ever, Inheritance, etc are not allowed.  All opportunities are allowed, money earned are a bonus.  Items given to you for being a celebrity are not to be sold.  You may use them however, if its an item that is replacing another item (eg: fancy bed replacing cheap bed) then the other item (eg: cheap bed) needs to go into your family inventory, no monetary gain is allowed through gifts like these.

Your goal is to live on this lovely 10x10 lot for 6 generations.  All non-heirs are to be kicked off the lot, the only people living there are the parents and children, no aunts, uncles or cousins.  Once you have chosen your heir (should be same for each generation - first male/female child, or first child (either sex) for example) all other young adult siblings should be kicked from the lot. Elders can stay or be kicked from lot - your choice.  People kick from lot can go into any career they choose.  Heir can only go into the five listed careers.

Spending money in town - you can only buy things in town if you roll the wish to 'buy a skill book/music book/fishing book etc'. You can only sell fish/fruit/veggies through the sell option in your own inventory (same goes for gems/metal/collectibles/etc)

No vacations are allowed.

To make this tougher I like the idea of only following the Sims wishes/opportunities, and only doing what they roll, and allow me to do. However any need (hungry, tired, etc) that is in the red can be dealt with directly, baby/toddlers who can't fulfill their own needs can be dealt with if in the red by a grown up.  An easier version would to do what ever you want to do.
